It is with great sadness that we share some personal news from the band. A close family member of Joey’s is facing a very serious illness. As a result, he and John have made the difficult decision to cancel all upcoming Calexico performances so he can be present to focus on his family’s health.

The cancellations include Calexico’s featured appearance as part of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s holiday shows on December 14 and 15, and their spring 2026 European tour. The European headline shows will be refunded at point of purchase. 

The TSO holiday shows will go on as planned, with our dear friends Orkesta Mendoza replacing Calexico, and it’s sure to be a wonderful evening of music.

This was not an easy decision, but it is unquestionably the right one. Nothing matters more than showing up for the people we love. Joey is deeply grateful for your support and patience, and the band looks forward to playing for you again once they’re back on the road.

Geprezen om hun “uitgestrekte, interculturele americana”, heeft Calexico de afgelopen drie decennia besteed aan het verkennen van de muzikale grensgebieden van het Amerikaanse zuidwesten, waarover ze unieke, filmische nummers hebben geschreven die even mysterieus en magnifiek zijn als de dorre woestijnlandschappen die hen inspireerden.

Opgericht in Tucson, Arizona door gitarist/zanger Joey Burns en drummer John Convertino, kreeg Calexico voor het eerst brede bekendheid in de jaren negentig met een reeks albums die de grenzen tussen hun roots, rock en Latijns-Amerikaanse invloeden deden vervagen, met ‘Feast of Wire’ als commerciële doorbraak.

In 2026 diepen ze hun band met het Belgische publiek verder uit met een concert in het Koninklijk Circus waar ze eerder al legendarische passages lieten optekenen.
